Takachiho Gorge

Takachiho gorge has beautiful columnar joint walls along the side of Gokase river. This is another rock formed from Mt Aso's ignimbrite erupted 130,000 and 90,000 years ago.　It is impressive to look up the rocks on the boat that you can rent.　A rental boat costs 2,000 JPY for 30 minutes and is not cheap but worth trying!   (2017. 高千穂峡

​美しい柱状節理で有名な高千穂峡。12万年前、および9万年前に阿蘇山が噴火した際の溶結凝灰岩が作る渓谷です。ボートに乗って下から眺める柱状節理は圧巻です。
