Niitsu Oil Field Outcrop

The outcrop is located at the foot of mountain from which oil were produced before Edo era(before 1600) until Heisei era.  The outcrop shows layers of sandstone that oil distills and mudstone that formed 6~4 Million years ago. There is a small museum "Petroleum Museum" where we can learn about oil production the oil field history of this area. (2017.July)

新津油田露頭

江戸時代以前から平成まで採掘されていた新津油田の麓にあり、石油の染み出る砂岩と泥岩から成る露頭を見学することができます。露頭から駐車場を挟んで反対側には当時の採掘状況を知ることができる「石油の世界館」があり、両方セットで見学することがお勧め。石油を産出するのは600万年〜400万年前の地層だそうです。（2017年11月）
