吉見百穴

史跡としてより知られている吉見百穴ですが、吉見丘陵の南西に位置し、新第三紀中新世（約1500万年前）荒川層の凝灰岩に掘られた横穴墓です。都心から1時間程度でこの規模の凝灰岩の露頭が見られる場所はなかなかないので、一見の価値ありだと思います。丘陵の中ほどには吉見変成岩類の地層があり鉱物採取に訪れる方もいるようです。（2018年6月）
